Service charge

Add an optional service charge to orders guests place from their table, such as 12.5%, as you might on a paper bill.

Turn it on

1. Open Settings in the top bar, then choose Table orders.

2. Switch on Add a service charge to table orders, and set the Service charge (%): up to 25%. Most UK restaurants add 10% or 12.5%.

3. Press Save changes.

What guests see

At checkout, the service charge is its own line under the subtotal, worked out on what the food comes to after any offers and discount codes. A ticked box underneath says it’s optional: guests untick it to remove the service charge, and the total updates straight away.

Orders your team takes on the kitchen screen don’t have one: add it at the till as usual.

Where it shows

• Orders: each order’s total includes the service charge the guest kept.
• Exports: Daily takings shows service charges in their own column, apart from sales, and each order in All orders shows its service charge.
• Analytics: takings leave service charges out.

Note

By law, service charges and tips belong to your staff in full. Your exports show exactly what was collected each day, to share out.
